A surprisingly un-jank 3rd person camera that tries to be smooth and playable.

In your Tushonka stained hands you find The Third Person Camera Mod for Tarkov. Think Ghost Recon, The Division or Arc Raiders. A camera mod that has gone through extensive tuning to make the 3rd person perspective not only playable but enjoyable.

Full disclosure: It's not perfect - this is Tarkov after all - but it tries to minimize the number of times that you get killed because it wanted to hide behind a shoebox.

Best enjoyed with a full bodied red wine and a solid slab of medium-rare HollywoodFX

Features

  • Extensive configuration. Do you wish to observe the world through the left earhole of your PMC? Do you identify as a geo-stationary spy satellite? These are all possibilities that are placed at your fingertips.
    • Shoulder or First Person view can be picked separately for red-dot and magnifying optics.
    • Accurate Fireport Crosshairs in ADS mode or allways-on.
    • Keybinds and multiple control schemes
  • Robust camera collision handling. The camera always strives to keep the player visible and avoid small niches or holes in the environment.
  • Gun stance sync (ie automatic shoulder swap based on lean or camera stance)
  • Blind fire & side step (extended lean) are super useful because you can see how much body you are exposing and can shoulder peek behind obstacles. This rewards a careful playstyle of staying behind cover.
  • ...and many more

Conflicts

Anything that messes with the camera, player and gun stances is potentially a conflict.

TODO

  • Make it easier/smoother to interact with the environment and pick up items.
  • Press vs Hold style keybinds

Media

Better videos coming soon, for now some teasers done on a testing build:

  • Version 1.0.4

    * Fixed gun mounting (thx sheidajin)

    * Crosshair no longer blocked by windows (thx Guidot)

    * Default crosshair color is red (stolen from Guidot)

  • Version 1.0.3

    * Fixed gun shoulder swap position to be correctly on the left (left leaning is much more useful now)

    * Blind fire & side stepping (extended lean) now work and are GOATED since you can see exactly how much body you are exposing and have vision behind obstacles

    * Added toggle for the foot shimmy when turning

  • Version 1.0.2

    * Fixed camera going derp due to headbob shenanigans

    * More immersive shimmying

    * Fixed awkward elbow position when pushing the gun into an obstacle

Edit: thanks go to PFAFFO & die mitze for diagnosing the headbob mess

  • Can you add a keybind which swaps between shoulder and scope view while ADSing? I find myself swapping between the two when using iron sights to take long range shots.

  • Finally, Ghost Recon but good

    Thumbs Up 1
  • Daaaamn, looking good

  • this is a really cool mod! genuinely having so much fun with it. will there be a option to toggle between shoulder and main view? cause playing factory is kinda hard sometimes lol

    • There's already a keybind for toggling to shoulder cam.

  • complete game changer, absolutely love it....

  • A video or image would be great to see how 3rd person looks like.

    • I didn't have time yet. It looks pretty much exactly like the Arc Raiders camera, but it's fully customizable.

    • Join Fika discord sv then you can see it.

    • I added a temporary placeholder video I recorded on a test build, but it should give you an idea.

  • if your thirdperson is buged set headbob to 1

  • This is very cool

  • Hello Janky!

I noticed that after installing HollywoodCam that I was able to open doors from quite a bit further away than I am normally able to. About the same distance the camera is placed in 3rd person. I assume it's something about the camera distance calculations not being cleared when going back into first person. Not a huge issue, just thought I'd share.

Thanks for the ridiculously cool mods! <3 This is really cool!

    • Yo, this is deliberate. Look at the "3rd person interaction range" setting in the F12 config. You can lower this if you want to. I made it quite generous so that doors aren't too much of a headache to open.

    • Apologies for my unclarity!

To clarify, the distance still seems to be quite far even when switching back to first person mode.

The third person view makes total sense! But it felt a tiny bit cheaty being able to open doors from further away in first person mode. :P In fact, going from 3rd to 1st allows me to even step back a couple of steps and still interact with the door. I tested this with a dev account with no other mods (in case there was some sort of conflict)

TLDR: I think the "3rd person interaction range" idea was/is being applied when in 1st person. (Again, not a big deal <3)

    • It is, but unfortunately it's not entirely trivial to make this work differently between 3rd and 1st person modes :(

  • Dad is home :D
