A surprisingly un-jank 3rd person camera that tries to be smooth and playable.

In your Tushonka stained hands you find The Third Person Camera Mod for Tarkov. Think Ghost Recon, The Division or Arc Raiders. A camera mod that has gone through extensive tuning to make the 3rd person perspective not only playable but enjoyable.


Full disclosure: It's not perfect - this is Tarkov after all - but it tries to minimize the number of times that you get killed because it wanted to hide behind a shoebox.

    • Unfortunately no. Too many things changed since then, and we are getting close to SPT 4 as well.

  • how do I activate the mod? What's the keybind?

    • Open the F12 menu, look for section "Janky's Lights, Camera, Hodor" and you can configure everything under there.

  • Bug report: when you use a hotkey to change between shoulders in 3rd person, and you go to first person, the gun and hands heavily BUG out, shake like hell and in 3rd person it looks EXACTLY like @Levhart published in Imgur.

    • Thanks for the kind words. I'm going to be honest: I wasn't planning on taking this further than a 3rd person camera mod. If anyone wants to extend it with further capabilities, I'm more than happy to integrate their work or they can just fork the source code - it's public after all.

    • Your mod works like a charm. It's so snappy I couldn't believe it. Definately will be using it to record some cinematics. Biggest struggle right now is to find a mod that does camera paths smootly. I tested the Cinematic Unity Explorer but it has some major dips in performance, besides the bugs.


      Btw, the only freecam mod working now is the Freecam by Terkoiz but it misses some features, works better for taking screenshots.

  • Love the mod, really enjoying it! just commenting about an issue idk if your aware or not but when you try to talk with you pmc the voice comes across as muffled or sounds like its from very far away/ not from your pmc, the voice work's as normal in first person but third person the voice remains muffled.

      A screenshot of your bepinex/plugins folder will be needed and then if you could turn on the debug visualisation in the F12 menu and record a short clip highlighting the issue, that'd be helpful.

  • i use one of the mouse's side keys to change the 3rd person camera angel which is the same key as switching sights key(mouse 3). i played full 3rd person for a while and when i switched to normal 1st person i realized the mouse3 switches shoulder and sights at the same time. the main key for shoulder switching doesnt do its job and is bugged. it just flinches the character's hand to the left side of the screen and slides it back to the right side. is it fixable or should i just change the keybinds

      So you bound m3 to switching sights and also swapping the camera between left and right? What do you mean by camera angle please?


      There's a dropdown called gun sync, maybe set that to "none"?

    • You could've just installed it and checked... It's not like you are married to the mod once it's installed :D


      But yes, you can toggle between the two modes with a keybind.

    • I did download it and check i'm enjoying it a lot. game feels great with motion blur and an ultrawide monitor. my only trouble is I've been noticing when I extract, my player model is left where I was standing in following raids.

    • I installed a couple mods since posting that comment, BDSM and FIKA particularly, and the problem no longer persists, I suspect bc of one of these mods, but I can't be sure.

    Thanks for the banger mod. I've noticed the crosshair sometimes gets sticky when aiming over the shoulder. I noticed this especially when aiming at doorways.

    • Hey, thanks for the kind words. Do you have a clip of the sticky crosshairs by chance? I didn't notice this issue but maybe I misunderstand what you mean.

      You can see the crosshair panning normally next to the doorway, and then snapping around inside the doorway.

    • Yeah that happens because the crosshair shows on your screen where the bullets would hit. As you pan across the doorway, the bullets will hit the wall beyond the doorway.

    I think I ran into a problem, I'll try to describe it.

    At the customs location, a scav ran into a bush next to me.

    The distance between us was 5 meters. I spent 2 AK magazines on him and he remained standing without receiving damage. After which I switched to first person and put him down with two rounds.

    Five minutes later, the situation repeated itself, but I already knew what to do. From first person and the scav is killed.

    I came to the conclusion that scavs in the bushes from a third person view are invulnerable.

      This mod doesn't do anything to guns or damage, so you are very likely having a mod conflict or other issue. Nobody else reported this either.

  • Can you add a keybind which swaps between shoulder and scope view while ADSing? I find myself swapping between the two when using iron sights to take long range shots.

    I noticed that after installing HollywoodCam that I was able to open doors from quite a bit further away than I am normally able to. About the same distance the camera is placed in 3rd person. I assume it's something about the camera distance calculations not being cleared when going back into first person. Not a huge issue, just thought I'd share.

    • Yo, this is deliberate. Look at the "3rd person interaction range" setting in the F12 config. You can lower this if you want to. I made it quite generous so that doors aren't too much of a headache to open.

      To clarify, the distance still seems to be quite far even when switching back to first person mode.

      The third person view makes total sense! But it felt a tiny bit cheaty being able to open doors from further away in first person mode. :P In fact, going from 3rd to 1st allows me to even step back a couple of steps and still interact with the door. I tested this with a dev account with no other mods (in case there was some sort of conflict)

      TLDR: I think the "3rd person interaction range" idea was/is being applied when in 1st person. (Again, not a big deal <3)

    • It is, but unfortunately it's not entirely trivial to make this work differently between 3rd and 1st person modes :(
