Film Look for Tarkov (ReShade Preset) 1.0.1

Please do not ask when mod authors will update their mods to 3.9.X
Bothering mod authors will lead to warnings and repeat offenses will lead to eventual bans.

This is NOT your typical "ciNeMAtiC" ReShade pack. This is an extremely fast and gameplay focused color correction alternative to FPS-killing POSTFX, done by a professional movie colorist, that substantially enhances vanilla aesthetics.

Escape-From-Tarkov-2023-02-12-05-49-22.jpg

Absolutely ZERO DoF, Bloom, Vignetting, hypercontrast or exaggerated colors bullshit.

This is comparatively tame color correction preset made with most sophisticated grading and film emulation tools in the industry.

Unlike built-in POSTFX (insane -20 FPS in my case), this has zero performance impact because it uses pre-baked custom LUT and minimal amount of extremely fast shaders (1.3ms on GTX1080. Disable optional LumaSharpen and FilmGrain for a sick 0.45ms preset, that's like taking 1 out of 2220 FPS).

Untitled.jpg

It tries to strike the balance between gameplay focused features like oversaturation for target acquisition and clarity, proper black levels/contrast, and pleasantly augmenting vanilla look.

Adjust your saturation levels based on preference/your monitor calibration in prod80_04_ContrastBrightnessSaturation node, or disable it completely.

Aesthetically it kinda fits Amands's Graphics default preset, but it was not graded with it in mind, I'm really not a huge fan of it anyway because it changes Tarkov vanilla look way too much for my taste (which I personally really like), maybe I will look into making a proper custom preset for it in the future.

Installation:

1. Unzip the archive and put it in root folder of you SPT installation. (ODT-ColorCorrection-Tarkov-ReShadePreset.ini and "reshade-shaders" folder should be at EscapeFromTarkov.exe level).

You have to make sure that the files are located like this:

%SPT-INSTALL-DIRECTORY%\ODT-ColorCorrection-Tarkov-ReShadePreset.ini

%SPT-INSTALL-DIRECTORY%\reshade-shaders\Textures\250D.png

Installation example is under the spoiler:

2. Download ReShade and install it like this:

2.1 First, in the installer, go to your SPT folder and choose EscapeFromTarkov.exe

2.2 Next, choose Directx11

2.3 Next, ReShade will offer you to SELECT THE PRESET TO INSTALL.

2.4 Target my ODT-ColorCorrection-Tarkov-ReShadePreset.ini preset in root folder of your SPT installation. It will download all necessary shaders automatically. Finish the installation.

3. Start your game like normal.

3.1 In-game, on first launch it will offer a tutorial. Press HOME button to start it to open ReShade configuration window. Follow the tutorial, or skip it if you want to.

3.2 Click PERFORMANCE MODE in the bottom right bottom corner of ReShade configuration window (If you'll want to adjust the saturation, or other settings, remember to turn it off).

3.3 Press HOME button again to close the window.

3.4 DISABLE YOUR POSTFX OPTIONS

Uninstall:

Simple, run the ReShade installer again, and select uninstall option.

  • Groovy. Slapped the Kodak 250D LUT on there and called it a day!

I think a professional cinema colorist would be using Khronos neutral tone remapping, and building up a LUT from there. Unless you aren't the professional cinema colorist (the vibe I got was that you were the PCC), and your description is referring to the Kodak 250D LUT... Then it totally makes sense!

It's nice to see a change of pace from the "crank bloom up and shift the toe and shoulder a bit, trick people into thinking I'm a magician" sort of ReShade presets. I was just about to whip up a base preset to share here, since color standards in general can be tricky. Having worked with color for so long both professionally and in game development, I'm always shocked to see how intensely far people go without agreeing on a base. It's why there are standards that define that base, most just never see that.

Go with the people that define the base, that studios and camera manufacturers/engineers use and depend on. There's a whole committee made up of entities such as the cats that created/manage OpenGL, film studios, hell even governments. They all argue and experiment and test until they agree on a standard. Then all the pretty colors you see and the displays you buy up use those standards.

Kodak 250D? This is what the LUT you are using is based on, however it's true form is lost because EFT/Unity isn't tonemap'd to spec. You could throw any LUT based on an Instagram filter and get a similar look, but you're losing the color representation and missing what makes 250D so darned special (it's used typically to give a warmer feel, mostly romantic comedies and such use it on average).

I'm gonna stop there. Color gets me all fired up :P Keep up the good work, don't stop!

So "The Dark Knight Rises", "Inception", "Tenet", "Dunkirk", "Spectre", "No Time to Die", "Star Wars: Episode VII" and VIII, "Jason Bourne", "The Hateful Eight", "The Imitation Game" and hundreds of other movies are all romcoms now?

But it is "tonemapped" to Rec.709/sRGB, and this LUT was tailor made using proper ACES color pipeline with best film emulation tools in the industry, so how can you say "it's true form is lost" if we have clearly established above, that you have absolutely no idea what form this film stock actually has?

Do you seriously imply that you have to actually custom patch Unity render engine and implement a 7 month old technology, then adjust ALL the lighting, assets, fog settings, etc on all maps for this new physically-based rendering tonemap curve (assets that were never meant to be rendered this way) to be working at least semi-properly, to be considered "professional enough"? On top of that, as of writing, not a single game engine has actually implemented Khronos PBR. Your "suggestion" is utterly presumptuous, arrogant and borderline insane.

Be my guest, I dare you to create anything close to this preset using actual instagram filters.

No doubt it would be extremely easy for a person with such an exclusive taste and a bloated ego.

  • Hello, if i install reshade, tarkov not launch correctly. Stuck on black blank screen. Any solutions?

  • Hello,

What graphic settings would you recommended using with this?

    HBAO on or of?

    Ansitropic on or of?

  • This is BY FAR the BEST color I've seen in this game. Thank you soooo much for this.

  • What in game settings do you have? I’ve used this reshade as a necessity for my play throughs however I get like not consistently good fps in general with Tarkov any game settings you would recommend?

  • oh man, i miss LUT's - think i had it for 1 week then they blocked them.

    Nice work.

  • Hey ODT birbbye

Thanks for this, and your other great QOL stuff! Appreciate your work & really enjoy the 'improved vanilla' look of this preset! Definitely yields a small performance boost on my mid-range system too

  • i did everything in the instructions , but when i start the game he crashes to the desktop

if i delete dxgi.dll the game starts normal

  • Does it work on 3.7.X?

  • Running the game first time did not display a tutorial and pressing home does nothing :(

    • install reshade

    • I did haha, reshade was installed and I read the .txt file and it said something like "If you are seeing this file then it more than likely meant that ReShade has failed to initialize, visit our forum blah blah blah"

  • any idea this will work on 3.5.5?

  • hi

i have Amands's Graphics mod , i have to disable it or your preset works with the mod ?

  • Great mod. It really enhances Tarkov experience.

  • I love how it looks in the world. Like some others have said, I wish there was a way to have it turned off at the menu, but enabled once you get in raid. I'm also not a fan of how it turns the bright green health numbers to a yellowish color.

    • Yoy can assign a button to toggle filter on and off in Reshade.

  • Even though the world itself looks ok and it does give me +10 fps, the colors on the menu is disgusting. Everything looks like its at -20 brightness but +100 contrast. I fiddled with the settings but by the time the menu looked good, the world looked like shit. Imo the funky looking menu doesn't justify 10 extra frames a second. Unique idea and I'm sure on a better quality monitor it looks great, but it's just not for me.

    • a bit late but you know you could just bind the reshade to disable / enable when you want and enable in raid but disable off raid? the only downside is when you have to look at the inventory in raid

  • the colors are really really nice but i encounter 2 problems

first : Its so more darker than ever at least in factory

second : Why it disable and cant use my msi afterburner and riva stats overlay to see my fps and my temps ??

i'm the only one having this issue ?

  • Is this mod compatible with 3.4.1?

    • Yes

  • Does it work well along with "Amanda's Graphics"?

    • Technically yes. Aesthetically, maybe.

      Thumbs Up 1
    • I will refer to my earlier post, I am running Amanda's Graphics along with this reshade preset. Two thumbs WAAY up

      Thumbs Up 1
    • Curious how you combined them? I am interested in trying it out – any advice or tweaks you made in Amand's to make 'em mesh well together would be appreciated.

  • Okay, like WOW! Just the basic install for this REALLY does wonders for the look of everything, and holy heck did my FPS drastically improve! It's all so smooth now! Look out Goon Squad! I'm gunnin' for ya!

    Thumbs Up 1
  • So when in ReShade Setup, on the "Select effect packages to install:", should only "Standard effects" and "Color effects by prod80" be checked ? It shows me all types of different effect packages and I dont wanna fuck it up lol.

    Thanks !

    Winston

    • Yep, that right, just continue!

  • I am sorry for asking urelated question, but I don't know where to ask this. Is there a mod that turns off bots 'sixth sense'? I mean when they always know you are aiming at them and turn around immediately. I just got sniped by a scav with a 9x18 smg from a 100 meters, and it is VERY frustrating.

  • The screenshots still look rather oversharpened, what ingame sharpness value do you use?

    • I did them with oversampling setting, which only after the fact I realized was pretty broken in Tarkov. Was too focused on getting locations shown.

Was too lazy to redo then, good enough, heh.-

  • Thank you for the reshade & great mod!

For those that is gonna add this - these are my preference

    • Delete Amanda's Graphics
    • If you are using the Time & Weather mod - change the keybind to END
    • Disable POST FX
    • Under Graphics that is your preference to change
      • High Quality Color (UNCHECK)
      • HABO: Off
      • SSR: Off

I did lessen the saturation down and changed a few things and ran time & weather to see the difference of modes.

    • In my opinion armands graphics plus this mod makes the game look really good and you can see pretty far but that might be my Nvidia color settings doing its job aswell for when i play live

  • My screen goes black when i load the game. With the reshade uninstalled it works fine, any ideas on whats going on?

    • i had the same issue but you forgot to move the files you downloaded to your SPT Folder

You have to make sure that the files are located like this:

      %SPT-INSTALL-DIRECTORY%\ODT-ColorCorrection-Tarkov-ReShadePreset.ini

      %SPT-INSTALL-DIRECTORY%\reshade-shaders\Textures\250D.png

    • Still kinda confused, i only have one folder that has everything in it. The file is in there. Do i have to put it inside another folder?

    • The preset file should be alongside EscapeFromTarkov.exe, NOT in the folder

    • I cant figure it out lol. just an idiot i guess. When i extract the file the file ODT-ColorCorrection-Tarkov-blah blah. Where does that file go, my spt folder has AKI_data, Bepinex and a ton of other folders including Escape from tarkov application. Sorry for this

  • First thing, I love your mods.

Second thing, I love this ReShade.

I was using Amand's Graphics and I enjoyed it, but I agree with you that it got away a little but from Tarkov's original look and feel. It was a welcomed addition and I love with SPT we have options!

Plus I have had hard time with target acquisition due to color deficiency and I just CANT SEE ANYTHING with the default settings or PostFx.

Thank you for making this, I am now getting more kills even with my potato aim.

  • Hi, I've managed to get the mod to work following the instructions (by the way it looks awesome so far it'll take time to get used to the colours lol) but before I select which map to choose I get this [UNHANDLED EVENT] Unbind in the console, hopefully someone can explain what this mean = https://prnt.sc/GmDPcK9Xvbwo

    Thanks in advance,

    RR.

    • thats a weird one, definitely not from my mods.

can't say which one, but I'd start by grabbing a proper text editor (like Sublime Text or VS Code), targeting your mod folder and text searching the mod files for something that has word "options" in it.

      Thumbs Up 1
    • Awesome thank you I'll give that a try. I do have a seeking suspicion on which mod(s) maybe causing this little issue but nothing too difficult to fix.

I did a raid on Woods and by Christ it looks amazing....

      3N8E-7xyrXRm

    • It does indeed :)

      Great shot!

      Thumbs Up 1
    • Before I forget to ask bud, should I keep High-quality colour or any of the other options enabled in the Graphics section? I know to turn off the PostFX.

    • Oh, thats totally up your preference and GPU capability. HQ color seems to help a tini-bit with things like smother sky gradients and deep shadows, but it costs some FPS, and personally I wouldn't bother. If your GPU can handle it, leave it on, etc

  • going to try it out! No issues with the installation. For sure need to get use to the colours

    • You can adjust your vibrance and/or saturation levels based on preference/your monitor calibration in prod80_04_ContrastBrightnessSaturation node, or disable it completely.

      Enjoy <3

  • does it work with Amands's Graphics ?

    • Technically - 100%.

      Aesthetically, that depends.

    • iv installed it iv gone through tutorial and all i have is a black screen

    • you have make sure that "%SPT-INSTALL-DIRECTORY%/reshade-shaders/Textures/250D.png" file is is located like this.

    • working now thank you

      Heart 1
  • prod80? reminds me of Skyrim days

    • Best shaders for color, even with some features I wish I had in professional software.

  • Cool idea, but everything is now teal and orange. Something I despise in movies, as it's lazy "color theory". Like all the Borne movies being a desuturated blue.

    How do I uninstall this?

    Thumbs Up 1
    • I agree. But it's a deliberate decision.

It's the only universal type of grading that can be done in "slap it and forget it" preset way, that will work in every type of scenario, and in case of Tarkov - every map, be it day or night, any weather condition, any interface element, etc.

That's why grading is an art form, ideally, like in movies for example, you do it shot-by-shot, scene-by-scene, you consider story, tone and pace, and even music to create the best, and most unique result possible, carefully adjusting everything with secondary masks and spending a lot of time doing it.

But without the ability to adjust everything at every scenario, this is the only way. Is it lazy and somewhat corny from an artistic standpoint? Yeah, kinda, but it's subjective and debatable. Is it the best rendition of teal-and-orange style possible? I really do think so. Does it make it better and universally more pleasant to look at while serving gameplay purposes? IMO - absolutely.

    • To uninstall, run the ReShade installer again, and select uninstall option.

    • Thank you very much. Both for the long description of how it's done and why, as well as the answer to my question. :)
