Bothering mod authors will lead to warnings and repeat offenses will lead to bans.
What on God's green earth is this?
The various tarkov special effects are somewhat anemic, or completely missing (e.g. shooting ground with grass generates no impacts at all). HollywoodFX is a mod that represents the wholesale engoodening of special effects. Think EFT RAID. Think the Lobby Scene from The Matrix. Think John Woo movies. If your target isn't covered in smoke, debris and sparks after emptying a mag into them, we aren't doing it right. That being said, I don't want to go overboard and turn it into a complete joke. The idea is to strike a nice balance.
Screenshots really don't do this mod justice, there are a bunch of videos at the bottom of the page. NB: the videos are now quite outdated, a lot of new and high definition effects have been added. I'll update them at some point.
Features
- High resolution, artisanal and handcrafted impacts for every single material type in the game
- Special impacts depending on camera angle, impact angle and lots of randomization to prevent repetition
- Special treatment of flesh, body armor and helmets
- Bullet energy based impact composition. The bigger the bullet, the bigger the oomph.
- Battle Ambience: lingering smoke, dust, etc for that authentic RAID vibe.
- Fully compatible with Visceral Combat & Borkel's Bloody Bullet Wounds - this mod is meant to be used alongside these.
- If you get crashes, please join one of the discord channels pinned in the comment section and drop me the logs. The mods are fully compatible, if you are crashing, there's something cursed in your modlist or installation.
- Fully compatible with FIKA but doesn't require it. Only installs into player setups, not the dedicated host.
- Uses billboards wherever possible to reduce the CPU impact
TODO
- Muzzle blast dust/debris if firing near the ground/wall/cover
- Disable rendering blood when the player is hit (ie don't clutter the screen when you get domed)
- Special effects based on armor/helmet material (ie different impacts on level 1 vs level 6 armor)
- Special impact effects when using tracer rounds. Flammable materials like paper, fiber, rubber should be set on fire occasionally. Nothing leery, just enough to look interesting.
- Get rid of the excessive/blinding flash when shooting at metal surfaces with a shotgun
- The effects don't work in the hideout for some reason
- Object specific effects, e.g. gas cylinders, lamps, electrical equipment, barrels
- JSON based effect definitions to allow people to make and share presets
- Replace the current placeholder texture sheets with custom renders.
Thanks
There are too many to list, the whole SPT and FIKA modding community helped make this happen. Without the respective dev teams, neither SPT or FIKA would exist. To name perhaps the most influential individuals (in no particular order):
- ssh (without his SDK this mod would not exist)
- Fontaine
- Hazelify
- Goofbol
- EpicRangeTime
- jpdarkone
- RetroLogic
- A dozen or so concerned horses
...and many others who made suggestions and took time to provide feedback.

Version 1.6.6
- JankyTheClown
- 2.4k Downloads
* Significantly reduced density of blood mists to make them less oppressive
* Significantly engoodened the various blood sprays
* If you don't have FPS issues, I recommend setting the blood spray emission to 2x (or even 3x if you feel bloodthirsty).
-
Version 1.6.5
- JankyTheClown
- 1.8k Downloads
* Significantly improved blood mists
* Blood spray is no longer mirror shiny (duh)

* NOTE: your configuration might get reset, don't forget to check any settings you've changed before!
-
Version 1.6.3
- JankyTheClown
- 5.9k Downloads
* Environmental light flares are now less oppressive. People with NVGs seem to like staring into high wattage streetlights, but I don't judge.
* Enhanced the lingering muzzle smoke and made it longer lived.
-
Version 1.6.2
- JankyTheClown
- 1.4k Downloads
* Banished the poltergeist that was causing floating shells (hopefully). If it comes back again, give me a holler.
* Tweaked the environmental light flares
* Adjusted things (channelling Fromsoft changelogs here)
-
Version 1.6.1
- JankyTheClown
- 946 Downloads
* Muzzle lights now cast shadows (toggle off if you get FPS issues).
* Enhanced empty shell physics (toggle off if you get FPS issues).
* Muzzle jets are much more visible at a distance.
* Muzzle light is more subtle on suppressed weapons.
* Added more variety to metal sparks.
* Refined muzzle effects.
-
Version 1.6.0
- JankyTheClown
- 1.8k Downloads
- Brand new, artisanal and sustainably sourced muzzle blast effects for every gun in the game.
- Significant performance optimization! Stutters (hopefully) eliminated for those who were suffering!
- Gore particle emission rate is now configurable - if you still get stutters turn down the Squirt & Finisher Emission Rates in the config.
- Emission rate can be turned down to zero to completely disable individual effect types.
- Further refinement and improvement of the existing impact effects. Better ambient smoke, better shockwaves, etc..
- Configurable spent casing ejection velocity. The default setting results in neat piles of brass building up near your feet during large engagements.
- Improved resource handling and cleanup between raids.
- A significant portion of the configuration - mainly around Gore & Blood has been rebuilt. I recommend starting with a fresh config.
NB: The muzzle jets are disabled in the hideout as there are issues loading asset bundles there.
This release a culmination of 1 month of work - more than it took to get the first release of the mod. There may still be issues and things need some more polish. Expect followup releases in the coming weeks.
The environmental muzzle blast effects (ie dust kicked up when shooting near the ground/walls) are still TODO. This is the next item on the list.

Note on Windows Defender being an ass
The false alarm is being issued for "Trojan:Script/Wacatac.B!ml" which is a machine learning based detection (figures) that plagues a lot of apps that are suddenly successful. Defender sees HollywoodFX.dll spreading across machines out of the blue and flags it.
There's not much I can do but wait until enough "reputation" is built that this stops happening. Well, I could buy a Code Signing certificate for $200 a year, but more than the price is the extra hassle and faff of sorting that out, so we'll just have to bear with the status quo.
If you don't trust me (which is understandable!), the source code is always available on github and you can inspect it and compile the library yourself. It's really quite simple.
rathew
I was able to download it fine now.
fallenq
Like i said you should be able to report it to microsoft
JankyTheClown Author
Already done this, but it'll take weeks/months to build the reputation.
DrakiaXYZ
This is very common for all new client mods, as well as updates for client mods. Reporting it to Microsoft does nothing unless you never touch the DLL again, as the next update would get flagged as well. You see this in a good 70% of mod comments after a new SPT update when mods are being updated
Brad444
Hey! Really awesome mod, adds so much to the experience and after seeing this it was one of the first things I downloaded after getting back into spt after a while!
I'm a bit confused though on the settings Bullet Kinetics Scaling, and Ragdoll Force Multiplier. I did experiment with these some but usually with not the desired effect so just to clear it up, if I want LESS force to be applied to the ragdoll, I should turn down the Ragdoll Force Multiplier, and Bullet Kinetics Scaling? What I'm trying to achieve is ragdolls being mostly unaffected by bullets, so not being pushed around much at all on death, just dropping. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks for the awesome mod
JankyTheClown Author
Heya, thanks for the kind words. You should turn off cinematic ragdolls amd set the force multiplier to 0. Then they'll just collapse to the ground.
I'd leave the kinetics scaling at 1, it multiplies the effect of the bullet speed before it goes into the kinetic energy calculation and as such it's effect is squared.
Brad444
Thanks a lot!
FalseReports
Great mod honestly, just find the blood a little too much since it pretty much blinds you worse then flashlights in this game and tends to drop FPS when you got 2 idiots spraying each other.
JankyTheClown Author
There's a release coming tomorrow where the mists of blood have been tuned down quite a lot. Should help with visibility.
FalseReports
That sounds amazing, I was dying of laughter when me and this AI in labs was spraying each other and all I saw was blood lol.
JankyTheClown Author
New version is out. Enjoy!
SaintMellec
I'm gonna jump into this mod soon and I'm excited to do so. I wanted to ask - are there blood pools from fallen enemies? Something about that is so satisfying and visceral. I'm going to get the mod either way, but was feeling curious about that
JankyTheClown Author
Sort of... not the way you'd see in Ready or Not for example. However, there are some pretty gory volumetric blood splashes and special "Finisher" effects that are emitted on killing shots. These do leave a hefty amount of blood on the ground.
I'd like to do Ready or Not style blood pools eventually, but this is not trivial as it'll need a new decal system implemented.
SaintMellec
That's so cool! Thank you for the reply!
spicymanp
Cannot say how satisfying the impact from a headshot is with this mod. The blood spray, the kickback of the head as the body does ragdoll things. *chefs kiss*
Thank you!
MyBPgotammo
Would it be possible to add a txt document in files saying what each effect does? Some of them can be a little confusing, takes a while to try and figure out what does what & next thing you know your resetting trying micro adjustments again.
JankyTheClown Author
This would certainly be possible but is subject to my time being available, which is quite low
MyBPgotammo
We shall have to deal then lol No worries, thanks for the mod. Love the effects. I just try to tone the blood sprays down/etc. but feel like it just turns off once I start moving sliders a little. Think Chatgtp might be my solution.
JankyTheClown Author
I'll take some videos of the individual gore effect components in the editor and that should give you an idea what you are adjusting.
Deadly01zero
When i use this mod my performance and fps goes down, would love to use it without playing on a slide show. any suggestions?
JankyTheClown Author
As I wrote in the very first pinned message, I'm happy to help but I do not provide support here. Come to one of the discords mentioned in the pinned message.
Generally speaking, the mod is quite vram heavy depending on the texture quality settings chosen. Running out of vram is what causes stutters. I suggest dialling down the texture quality and see if it helps.
People run the mod without any issues on potato PCs. If you have performance issues, it's something with your setup.
da_hexx
hello, would the mod version 1.4.4 be the latest working on spt 3.10?
really like the 1.4.4 version, will check out latest versions when i'll hop on 3.11
JankyTheClown Author
That's right. I'm glad you are enjoying it!
SimHog
Howdy ... Is version 1.4.4 compatible with 3.9.8?
JankyTheClown Author
Heya, none of the versions are compatible with 3.9 unfortunately. The first version released was for 3.10.
Jabroninextdoor
Can't love this enough. Love this bullet decal stuff since Half-Life 2. Makes the gunplay feel more alive by a lot. If I decide to magdump my hard earned BP rounds there's a huge satisfying mess. Love that the caliber differences. Also the blood and gore is S tier, better than Borkel's. Just the ragdolls doing backflips is a bit too much.
Thanks for your hard work. Wish someone could make it work for older versions of SPT too.
JankyTheClown Author
Thank you! Decrease the ragdoll impulse if the John Woo style ragdolls are too much. The slider is there for a reason
Shrew_Team
This is an awesome mod!
However, I can see the muzzle flash even with the silencer on, is this intentional?
I used the M4SD silencer on HK416.
JankyTheClown Author
Can you please post a screenshot? Or join the discord and hit me up there.
FWIW: yes, silenced guns still have a modest muzzle flash. It should be quite a bit dimmer than without it. It's also possible that the particular attachment is bugged. Ultimately I have to rely on the attachment being correctly implemented, which is not always the case. E.g. some muzzle brakes don't have correct muzzle jets defined by BSG.
Mugnum
Love the ragdolls, they're perfect! There's just something about a scav dramatically falling down and it's AK playing a sound upon hitting the ground – chef's kiss, not sure if it's part of mod but don't recall that ever happening on live.
JankyTheClown Author
Thank you! The weapon dropping sound is part of this mod. In the base game, the weapon remains attached to the hand and doesn't function as a separate physical object.
spicymanp
This is SICK! Thank you!!
dSERiES
Babe, wake up, new HollywoodFX just dropped
JadeLovesMares
Which version of your mod works best with 3.9.8?
JankyTheClown Author
None I'm afraid. The first release of this mod was for 3.10.
Operator0
INCREDIBLE MOD!!!! in EVERY WAY, man this game just got elevated beyond my comprehension!!!...lol, first time in a firefight with this mod i was like "Whoa".....the whole time...lol A++++++
Operator0
CRAZY STUFF JUST WANTED TO REPORT I GOT spt A WEEK AGO....NO MODS NO HIGHER THAN 55 FRAMES, I INSTALLED YOUR MOD....70 FRAMES...WTF??!?!?!! GUESS THIS MOD IS DEFINETELY STAYING!!!!! PLUS ITS JUST SICK .....A+++++
JankyTheClown Author
Some further investigation indicates that the stutters with Amands Graphics only affect AMD cards, and only some of them. It seems to be a rare issue and I don't have an AMD card at hand unfortunately so I can't test.
JankyTheClown Author
If you have stutters, please try the latest release (v1.6.0).
Also: please make sure that Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling is turned on in Windows.
LUDENizm
I have a video card from nvidia, and yet I can't play properly with both of these mods. If both mods are active, regardless of the holywoodfx settings (f12), the blood effects appear to still render, and statters appear when hit, but the blood effects seem to be transparent, so I can only play if one of the mods, holywoodfx or amandsgraphics, is turned off. maybe I didn't understand very well what is written above, English is not my native language, but I hope this info will help somehow, not only AMD is suffering.
GySgt_Watson
I can confirm, my 3080 has the same problems. I had heavy stutters after some time in the raids and then the game usually crashed completely. Interesting thing was that upon crashing, my desktop disappeared. I could access the icons at the Taskbar (eg. Chrome and File Explorer), but my icons and wallpaper were gone, so I had to restart the PC.
And yes, I'm using Amand's Graphics as well. Deleting HFX solved the issue.
Also, the stutters got gradually worse. I'd been playing with AG and HFX for a week or so and had no issues at first, but it was getting worse and worse, to a point where I couldn't last 10min in a raid.
JankyTheClown Author
Can both of you please join the discord and get in touch? I have a new alpha version that should address these problems.
FWIW, if you are seeing a gradual worsening of performance over a week, I don't think that's down to the mods. That's probably something iffy with your setup... Ie performance issues should not accumulate over time like that, there's nothing persistent between raids except your profile.
diasiledu
I think the issue is bigger than that, with this mod enabled my PC slowly dies, processes start to die and suddenly black screen with no response. I need to hard reset to get it back to normal, but never able to get into a raid. I have 7900XTX btw. I can confidently say it crashes the video drive or something like that. Tried playing a video while starting a raid, the moment tarkov starts freezing, the video turns black or with weird artifacts until its fully dead.
JankyTheClown Author
I can promise you that this is not because of this mod. There's something very wrong with your PC if this is happening. All this mod does is render some extra effects. If this causes degradation and blue screens for you, your OS or hardware - or both have serious issues.
Again, there's nothing extreme or unusual that this mod does. It uses bog standard unity features. I believe you that you are experiencing issues, but you should look at your hw and os setup. Do you have overheating issues perhaps?
That being said, I have an alpha release that seems to address people's issues, can you please try this:
https://github.com/SleepingPil…eleases/tag/v1.6.0-Alpha2
RGRBEATTIE
Hello,
Wish version should I download for 3.9.8?
Regards.
JankyTheClown Author
None I'm afraid. That is so ancient that it predates the first version of HFX....
RGRBEATTIE
Hello,
Thank you for the reply, sorry I did not realise it wasnt available for 3.9.8 but a lot of us now are going back to 3.9.8 for performance reasons etc etc.
Regards.
Fegeer
Wow! I’ve been playing with the mod for a few days and only now noticed that you added spent shell casings!!! This is amazing!!! Thank you for absolutely stunning mod!
Is there a way to force spent shell casings stay on the ground until the very end of the raid?
sptenjoyer123
Just here to say i love this mod
PatrickBolter
I've avoided this in favour for other blood effect mods until 3.11 and this was the first to update.
Glad I finally gave it a try. It adds so much flavour to firefights and makes kills feel very satisfying. Big guns have big impact. Doming someone with a .50ae has the feedback I want it to have.
Will be keeping this one installed for sure.
CMDR_Tank
hey man.
big fan of your work bro i love it so much.
i still on 3.10.5 and i wanna know if you heard anyone have an issue when they shooting an IS they kinda get super laggy? is that common in this mod?
thank you man and much love to you
JankyTheClown Author
Hey, thanks for the kind words. What do you mean by IS? There shouldn't be any lag normally, but there may be weird interactions with other mods of course. Best course of action is to come to one of the discords listed in the pinned message up top, and then we can look at your modlist etc.
CMDR_Tank
my apologies it seems i made a mistake when i was writing ;^^ i was on a hurry so sorry.
what i meant was AI not IS>
and the room in discord that you mention how can i find it?
also i can show you want i mean buy a clip from my stream.
JankyTheClown Author
The discord link is on the home page of this website on the right. After that join the #Janky's Emporium of Jank channel under #mods-development.
JankyTheClown Author
Are you running Amands Graphics? It looks like there's an incompatibility and hfx stutters a lot when both mods are installed.
CMDR_Tank
i do yes i run amands graphics
NYC23
I love what you've done with this mod. I think a better ragdoll effect would enhance it, as characters currently fall in an arcade-like manner.
JankyTheClown Author
Arcade-y ragdolls are the staple of the mod
I have tuned things down slightly, in v1.5.1, but there's not much more I can do with ragdolls short of rebuilding the animation system in Tarkov from the ground up, which I'm unlikely to do any time soon.
DogsInTrousers
Would just like to comment how fantastic this mod is evolving. Such a great and effective way to add some more life into gunfights. The gnarly blood and gore isn't to my taste, but that's OK! I can turn it down!
(Ludicrous gibs!! ROTT anyone or am I too old?)
You have done an awesome job. Keep up the great work!
Netnikogo
BSG still hasn't contacted you ?
JankyTheClown Author
Alas
Wretched_K
Love this mod, especially the way enemies drop their guns when they die as well as they new way they ragdoll, it may not actually BE more realistic but it FEELS more realistic

Would love to see some kind of dismemberment or maybe prolonged death animations similar to arterial hits in Ready Or Not, though I'm not sure if that is even possible
Either way, love the mod and can't wait to see the new stuff once I finally migrate to 3.11
JankyTheClown Author
Thank you for your kind words!
Dismemberment is unlikely to be part of HFX, doubly so because there's already a mod that does it very well called Visceral Combat (available on the Fika discord).
Wretched_K
Yeah, I'm familiar with Visceral Combat although due to some comments I saw on the SPT subreddit I was under the assumption that it had been reworked to require Fika to work

Additionally, I never felt in was worth joining a server I didn't really have any interest in just for one mod
I appreciate the recommendation nonetheless
Swoopty
Thank you for this amazing mod ! Much like Amands Graphics, this has become a mod that I find myself COMPLETELY UNABLE to play without at this point. The addition it brings is SO ******* DOPE !!!!! So cinematic and beautiful to look at that I am utterly disappointed without it.
