    hello,

I'm pretty new to this and I have searched rather extensively for an answer to my question but to no success.

with the update of joshmate's better backpacks, I wanted to update the version to my game, but being rather new to modding and not wanting to break my game since I already have loot I do not want to lose in my better packs, I wonder how could I safely update the mod?

I would otherwise assume to delete it from the files then install it again anew, but I fear something happening.

if someone could also explain how to update the launcher/server for the next update, I'd be thankful as well.

    thank you

  • If you are referring to updating from Better Backpacks v28 to Better Backpacks v28.1, it's just as simple as installing v28.1 as if you didn't already have the mod installed. For most mods, unless they say otherwise, you can install over the top.

I don't know if Better Backpacks has a config file as I don't use it myself, but if it does and if you modified the config file, then you may want to either back it up or make note of the changes, because updating the mod will overwrite those changes and put them back to default.

  • That will depend on many factors.

    Server Minor Updates:
3.11.0 -> 3.11.1 -> 3.11.2 == Okay to use 3.11.x server mods unless the author codes it to support only 1 version at a time (Like me).

    Server Major Updates:

3.10.x -> 3.11.x == Not recommended. Best to wait until the mod author explicitly states that their mod is compatible, or they upload a new version of the mod.

2.x.x -> 3.x.x == Not recommended. Best to wait until the mod author explicitly states that their mod is compatible, or they upload a new version of the mod.

    EFT version changes:

May require a new version of the client mods, but that will depend on the underlying code within the game's assembly files and also whether or not a mod author codes in support for only the current version of EFT (like me again).
For EFT updates, it's best to wait until the mod author explicitly states that their mod is compatible, or they upload a new version of the mod.

    TL;DR:
It's best to wait until the mod author explicitly states that their mod is compatible, or they upload a new version of the mod.

  • thank you so much!

I really appreciate your help here, I was referring to updating the launcher itself not the mods with the game version, but it's clearer now on how the whole thing basically works.

I already have another mod that's from an older version 3.10 or 3.9 I think, I tweaked the files myself so that it can run on 3.11 since it's a little mod and it runs fine for now...

    thanks again, enjoy your day
