Head Hunter 0.4.1

Please do not ask when mod authors will update their mods to 3.9.X
Bothering mod authors will lead to warnings and repeat offenses will lead to eventual bans.

A story driven trader with a unique "trophy"/"spoils of war" based economy; Telling an original story, in a narrative style, lightly interwoven with Tarkov's existing lore.

  • Version 0.4.1

    Small Update:

    • Fixes:
      • Removed the failure conditions from the quests "Skull Fucked" and "A Debt In Memoriam".
        • They remain restart-able, in case anyone legitimately failed or got the fail bug and hasn't restarted the quest yet
        • Now, rather than failing the quest, the objectives simply won't complete if you don't meet the conditions
      • Removed some erroneously included dev files from the archive; Sorry for the clutter animeifkdup

    • Additions:
      • 6.5 Grendel AR now has a default handbook preset, which will also be the config it's sold in on the flea.
        • Basically the same config that Head Hunter will have, minus the RAPTAR Rangefinder and the torch.
        • Should work correctly, but I kind of winged it on the code animeokay
      • Added a couple entries to the list of items HH will buy

    • Known issue(s):
      • The muzzle device for the Grendel AR remains illusive for some reason. It won't appear in linked searches or on the flea, even though it can be sold on the flea by the player and sold on the flea when attached to the weapon. And it can be attached to the Grendel barrel without issue. Real head scratcher. Still investigating this, but haven't had much time :kannatiredofthis:
        • In the mean time you now have two workarounds for the issue:
          1. Buy the preconfigured rifle with the muzzle device either from the Flea or from Head Hunter (after the end of Chapter 1)
          2. Use the commando in the messenger to get the muzzle device with command spt give 66c6518e9fbea23407ff248c 1

  • I meant to pin a comment like this last night but was way too tired :S

Please read ALL sections of the mod overview before commenting

"But that's a lot to read..."; this mod is going to be built like a novel. If you don't like to read, you're in the wrong place.

    Try to keep comments constructive

If your comment is essentially "I don't like this", you've contributed nothing.

Don't like my writing? Join the club, neither do I. I'm workin' on it.

Don't like the plot? Uh, okay?...

Don't like the art style? You're welcome to try to change it yourself, but telling me you don't like it is a moot point.

Things that WILL actually change with feedback:
Trader balancing (prices, loyalty levels, trades/barters), trader inventory, quest design (objectives, what maps to favor, quest difficulty, etc), overall flow and progression, localization/translation.

  • Not sure if this is known, haven't seen anything about it, but the ammo boxes from her are always empty :(

  • The narrative style was a nice touch, really enjoyed the ride. Hard quests were hard, but not unfair. Giving the Goons some background made hunting them more fun.

One issue I ran into - when I took the custom docs into a raid and got killed I couldn't complete the mission, as the quest item got removed. I ended up using Profile Editor to get past it. Making this a generic intel folder would solve this, but I figured you had reasons to make it a quest item.

Either way, very nice, more please.

    • Looking at your pinned post, some more specific stuff:

      • Involving other bosses and their loot items in the narrative would open up the maps more beyond Goons. e.g.: "Leg Day: That asshole Killa keeps fucking with our power supply and making my beer warm, go break his kneecaps." - Kill Killa with leg shots and deliver his helmet.
      • The barters are one of my favourite features, needing boss items gives them acutal value. Associated dollar cost values could be a bit higher to increase cash burn in the end game. Adding core Hideout item trades into this would make HH even more valuable.
      • Adding more alcohol deliveries to the general quest requirements would make sense with HH's character, being a boozehound. Could even do a repeatable quest of "Deliver 6 bottles of vodka/beer/etc". Always be scrounging for booze.
      • Don't-do-a-thing quests would fit the narrative because ops get complicated, along the lines of "Op at the sawmill, check in at mountaintop bunker for overwatch, don't give it away to the scavs." - Place jammer on mountain, don't kills any Scavs in the raid.
  • Someone recently watched Arcane in their underwear :kekw:

  • Hi~I am using a custom language(Traditional Chinese), which will cause all quests to become garbled. Is there any way to manually translate the quests or change the language used by the quests (even to English)

    Thumbs Up 1
  • Ok, i Think i found a bug in the "Translation Idemnification" Quest, Spoilers ahead for those that have yet to do it;

    Thumbs Up 1
    • So, did you complete this task in the end? Because I am also stuck on this task.

    • Yeah, turns out changing mod load order after reinstalling fixed it, make sure it loads After Painter/ Raid Overhaul/ Lotus/SVM after it loads then you can transfer the documents from the hideout task item pool to the in-raid one without them dissapearing.

  • How should I update, just overwrite all files directly?

    • For this update that’s fine; You can just extract the zip in the folder where you have SPT installed and it should prompt you to confirm overwrite of the old files.

      Thumbs Up 1
    • thanks

  • Weirdly enough when turning in dogtags in the quest Jumped In it duplicated the objective text.

Looks like the above. Not sure why it happened, no issue so far on finishing the quest I think.

    • As far as I know that's not exclusively related to this trader. I've had the same thing occur with other traders when turning in objectives. Shouldn't cause any real issues.

    • No worries, and yeah as far as I know it didn't cause any issue turning it in or anything so far.

  • Not sure if I'm missing something, but I noticed when trying to build my own grendel that it won't let you put a muzzle device on the barrel. Linked search doesn't come up with anything, and manually searching through the 6.5 items doesn't reveal a muzzle device. I could be missing something obvious, and I haven't unlocked the actual trade yet so I can't see what's on it that way. Either way, it's not a big deal. Just putting it out there in case it's something that needs to be looked into.

    • Yeah, not just you; that's a known issue at the moment. Not entirely sure why. The next update will have a default preset for it though and that should at least partially remedy the issue in the meantime. But until I find a moment to put that update together you can try the commando in the messenger and input spt give 66c6518e9fbea23407ff248c 1 that should give you the muzzle device which you can manually attach. Otherwise HH will have the pre-built gun added to her stock after the last quest of chapter 1.

    • That works, thanks. Just an FYI to anyone else reading this, the 'spt' command can't be capitalized or it won't work.

      Thumbs Up 1
  • The guy at the end of the bar was barely visible, surounded by the smoke of his cigarette. In a low voice he asked me if I could find him that rare artefact, called 'The Maltese Falcon'....

Hey, I like the way you worked out your storyline and the quests, reminds me of those old 'Film Noir' movies with Bogart... Cool!!

And discussions about the look of one trader? There are mods where everybody can change the picture to his taste. I appreciate people creating content SPT, that makes the big difference to vanilla EFT. So keep on your work! Thank you!

    Thumbs Up 1
    • I'll admit, a reference to The Maltese Falcon was not on my SPT Hub Bingo card lol. Though I do have a loose reference to 'Double Indemnity' in that one quest. But I have been increasingly infatuated with the idea of blending noir with semi-grounded (its Tarkov, so there's a requisite amount of suspension of disbelief) military drama/fiction.

EFT's designs and setting (notwithstanding the conflicting tone of some of their live action productions) have always felt a little 'noir-adjacent western-graphic-novel' to me. Not quite full-on Sin City, but I still look at Knight and think that could easily be a Frank Miller character. Its definitely influencing the writing to one degree or another.

But I'm spiraling into a tangent now; What I really wanted to say is, thank you. I really appreciate the feedback.

  • Bit of an issue with the last quest. Headshot bird-eye on customs and quest failed, extracted, restarted quest, objective was completed, turned in quest. Just a small bug. I enjoyed reading everything.

    • Copy that; Thanks for the report. A friend of mine told me the same thing. I think it’s something weird with over-damage spreading to other body parts and technically fulfilling both the success and failure conditions at the same time. Looking into it though.

  • sadge ai art but gyadamn

  • is that Revy's redheaded cousin? peak.

    • Yes. Canonized. Makes me think I should write in a fist fight with a nun at some point.

  • bro is pressed it's a mod chill.

    • I already broke my own rule by responding to the comment about the art/design :S even though it was meant to be a playfully facetious response. SMH. Not making that mistake again.

  • Seems interesting but I'm not a fan of her looks. I know it's AI generated but she looks like she just stepped out of an episode of Black Lagoon

    Thumbs Up 1
    • You got a problem with Black Lagoon, you got a problem with me, and I suggest you let that one marinate.

      Happy 2 Thumbs Up 1
    • Well that was unnecessarily hostile. This how you always respond to criticism? An what you gonna do if I don't? Throw a tantrum?

An no I don't have a problem with Black Lagoon but this is Tarkov, you walk around in nothing but a tank top covering your thorax you're pretty much asking for a bullet, just ask Tagilla.

I'm sure she kits up more appropriately while on missions but a bar in the middle of the city isn't exactly what I'd call a safe place, especially if I can find my way in there.

      Thumbs Up 1
    • That was a Letterkenny reference, bud; And you obviously didn’t read the part of the description where I stated that unsolicited comments on the art style would be at best ignored, and at worst met with contempt.

    • Firstly, who the hell is Letterkenny?

An secondly I did read the description but that part wasn't in there. It's in disclaimers. Sort yourself out.

      Thumbs Up 1
    • Lmao. You’re joking right? That’s samantic AF.

Alright, you know what, you’ve convinced me. I’ll change the art. This way she’s in full battle rattle, like *checks notes* all the other traders?… wait… that can’t be right. Light Keeper’s turtle neck has gotta be NIJ IIIA at least, right?…

      Regardless, consider the subject closed.

  • Ohhhh. I am 100% on this hype train. I really like the general idea of this mod.

Curious if this part will be configurable to be turned off: Story driven crossover quests with other mod traders:

I also read this disclaimer: Ground Zero Identity Crisis:

    - I'm fucking dumb as hell so I don't really get what you mean by this unless you are talking about if people are using multiplier mods XD.

Lastly do you plan to stay on 3.9.X or will you jump to the next version release as soon as you can?

    • To your first question: the crossover quests are just an amorphous idea in my head at this point, so there's no solid plans with regard to anything there yet.

To your second question re GZ: EFT has high level and low level ground zero now. Which one you play on depends on your level. But they're technically two separate maps, so as a modder when you make a mission for ground zero you need to include both maps for the quest zones, sometimes this CAN cause issues when a player is actually trying to complete said quest. Again, should be fine, but just something to note.

Edit: I missed your last question (sorry, half awake lol), I'm just focused on 3.9.x for now. Not much point in speculating about subsequent versions when we don't really have details. But odds are, if I keep up with the mod, I'm going to try to keep it current with SPT.

      Heart 1
    • No worries! Really appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions so in depth :) Thank you and keep up the good work I learnt something about GZ I didn't know!
