Fontaine's FOV Fix & Variable Optics 2.1.3

Please do not ask when mod authors will update their mods to 3.9.X
Bothering mod authors will lead to warnings and repeat offenses will lead to eventual bans.

Makes it so FOV does not change when ADSing by default, and allows you to instead set the FOV change yourself. Includes Variable Zoom optics and toggleable zoom (like ARMA).

  • Version 2.1.3

    Fontaine's FOV Fix v2.1.3 for SPT 3.9.x

Because certain combinations of Realism + FOV Fix, and their config options, require different offsets for left shoulder ADS, it is now a config option that the user can set themselves according to their needs and set up.

  • Version 2.1.2

    Fontaine's FOV Fix v2.1.2 for SPT 3.9.x

Fixed the movement speed blocking from last build not working, my bad.

  • Version 2.1.1

    Fontaine's FOV Fix v2.1.1 for SPT 3.9.x

See release notes for details. A couple fixes and improvement to controls.

    Fixes:

    • De-Optimized code that made free-look cause screen to zoom in.
    • Fixed left-shoulder swap causing weapon to be too far forward from camera.

    Changes:

    • If using mouse scroll + key combo for variable zoom, it will no longer change movement speed.
  • Version 2.1.0

    Fontaine's FOV Fix v2.1.0 for SPT 3.9.x

Updated to 3.9.x, added more config options, improved camera smoothing. DO NOT CARRY OVER YOUR OLD CONFIG FROM SPT 3.8.X OR BEFORE!

  • Version 2.0.0

Fontaine's FOV Fix v2.0.0 for SPT AKI 3.8.3

I fucked up the versioning so we're starting fresh at v2.0.0. Fixed SamSwat's Vudu zeroing, fixed issues with toggle zoom when it's disabled for un-aimed state.

  • Version 1.2.0

Fontaine's FOV Fix v1.2.0 for SPT AKI 3.8.3

Fixed issues with toggle zoom randomly disabling, improved performance, toggle zoom no longer cancels when toggling ADS, option to have toggle zoom on hold breath only. Also corrected mod versioning, please ignore previous versioning scheme.

    • Added config option to disable the EFT "Change Magnification" keybind when using variable optics.

  • Version 1.10.0

Fontaine's FOV Fix v1.10.0 for SPT AKI 3.8.0

  • Version 1.9.0

Fontaine's FOV Fix v1.9.0 for SPT AKI 3.7.1

Updated to 3.7.1, not backwards compatible.

  • A quick question, if I want to return everything to vanilla Tarkov, what should I turn off or remove so that I can play like vanilla Tarkov?

    • To play like vanilla Tarkov you don't install any mods...

  • Will there be plans to make similar mods like SamSwat's Vudu Mod for other first focal plane scopes like tango and Bender?

    • There's no point since BSG introduce variable optics with patch 0.15. I will just do my best to make them less shit when SPT 3.10 is released

  • Thank you for making this mod! I am a Chinese player and I want to ask may I repost your mod to our website? Of course I will indicate the source and your name.

  • Toggle zoom on hold breath is not applying the sensitivity multipliers for toggle zoom. Is this a bug or is there another setting that prevents this from applying?

  • So the issue I have is that some of the optics start their zoom at 2x instead 1x now, I'm still troubleshooting what's causing this and it might not be related to FOV fix at all, but starting here seemed logical. Does anyone else have this issue?

  • running into an issue where, when I adjust zoom with RazorHD, Vudu, Tac30, scopes, they don't click to the next zoom level, it just clips instantly with audible sound or the animation that shows the player adjusting zoom.

  • is it supposed to not work with the ELCAN ?

    • Does the Elcan have variable zoom in real life?

    • Elcan isn't variable zoom optic, it's only 1/4X.

  • is possible to zoom smoothly by using mouse wheel ?

    • you'll have to reduce the zoom steps for scroll, but then you'll be scrolling for longer

  • I installed this mod because I wanted to try out the variable zoom feature in this version of Tarkov 0.15.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that this mod was able to implement the “hold your breath and the screen zooms in so you can quickly see that you're holding your breath” feature I was thinking of.

    Best mod 10/10 :)

  • Just here to report an error throw:
    - Only reported it as it stated FOVFix.SetScopeModePatch in the first few lines. Keep up the good work, hope this helps if this is actually an issue

  • this may be a stupid question, so bear with me, but I like to use this mod in large part to expand the viewmodel pov a bit, or ui pov I think it is in the config, but when I do, and I ADS through an optic with any level of magnification, I get that strong black shadow around the rim of the glass making magnified optics virtually unusable. I know that's technically realistic, but I find the default fov a little cramped and immersion breaking. Is there a way around this issue? a way to adjust the optic's ideal distance from the eye in the settings or otherwise get around the issue?

    • scope offset

      Thumbs Up 1
    • thank you very much ill try that

    • unfortunately it seems that was the setting I was using to expand my fov during ads entirely, so, I was only able to lower that fov to somewhat fix the problem. I'm probably just using this mod too incorrectly I think

  • Hi, I'm running in an issue with the Leupold Mark 4 LR 6.5-20x50 30mm riflescope. It has only 8x magnification and so it should be affected by the variable zoom function of the mod, however, when if I use the mouse wheel to change magnification, it changes to x1 with no possibility of changing it back.

I'm using SPT 3.9.4 and the latest version of the mod. Excluding this mod I only have the EOTech Vudu Overhaul and Optics rework that touch scopes.

    Did anyone encounter this issue?

    • Read below, no FFP scopes

    • So there's no way to fix it, correct? I just have to avoid changing magnification with these type of scopes?

      ? 1
    • Do you think if there was a way to "fix" it I would have not done it? why would you need to avoid changing magnification?

  • Thought I'd let you know, that when you turn on the fov scale fix in the advanced settings, that pistol irons are broken. They'll turn into a blocky black texture any time you ads. ( You might already know, seeing as it's only in the advanced settings, but figured I'd say something just in case.)

Edit: Found out it was an issue caused by low LOD. lol

  • Hi, I just downloaded the mod and the scope rework (SPT 3.9.4). But my reticle doesn't seem to change when I zoom in (Like Vudu or other assault scope), it stays the same. Is there anything that I had to do to make my Reticle change? Thank you.

    • Read the other comments.

  • Hi, recently after updating to 3.9.4 I'm having random crashing problems with the game. if I go to consult the game logs the only error I see before the crash takes me back to the FovFix mod. Posting a copy of the error may be useful to understand if there is actually something wrong. Thank you

    • I've never had crashes reported to me, nor experienced them. You need to figure out what's causing the error or let me know once you've figured out how to reproduce it

    • unfortunately I don't know much about this kind of thing, I went to look at the logs to see if I noticed anything that could help me and I saw this error repeating itself and happening before the crash. In case I understand something more I will write it here

    • the only thing that comes to mind is that in the games in question I was using the Reap-ir thermal and I also use Borkel's Realistic Thermal mod. Could it be that it creates some problems?

  • Why does the Vudu change the movement speed when changing the zoom when no other scopes do?

    • Top tip!

      How to report a bug:

"Hey this is the issue I am experiencing, here are the steps to reproduce the issue, I made sure I am using latest version of this mod and the right version of SPT, I tested it with just this mod by itself"

      How to irritate a modder:

"why does this bug you've never even heard of or experienced or have had reported happen?"

      Thumbs Up 1
  • why did you remove the option to enable or disable zoom while not aiming? now whenever i press shift ( key i set to toggle zoom) it zooms in, and in the older version ( 3.8.3) i remember this would not happen because there was a option to enable it or disable zoom while not aiming.

    • I removed it because I thought people would be able to figure out how to do that easily with the existing config options

    • may i ask how? I've been messing with the configs can't figure it out

  • Fontaine,

I was wondering if you've experienced any sort of optic/reticle "trailing" effect, for example with the Monstrum Scope, the reticle leaves a little trail whenever I am and move the reticle around. I wanted to see if you've dealt with that and know a fix or if you're unfamiliar. Also happens with the VUDU sight and a few others.

    Thank you.

    • Disregard this comment. I found out it's because of the lossless scaling software I'm using. The frame generation is causing the reticle to have a trailing effect. It has nothing to do with your mod. My apologies.

  • Hey Fontaine, love the mod. One thing I was hoping to disable was the zoom changes of the mod. Optics like the Vudu and the Sig Tango 4x from Painter all change reticles when zoomed in. With this mod, we are able to zoom, but without the reticle changes. Is there a way to disable this portion of the mod to bring back zoomed reticle changes?

Edit: I see the option for "force use zoomed reticle" which is a start, but would like to have vanilla zoomed reticles back!

    • I'm not sure what you're asking, the point is variable zoom, othwise the reticle would suddently change when you reach the final zoom level?

    • Understandable. I was hoping to have an option to allow zoomed reticles to come back if variable doom is disabled. Thus allowing me to still have the optic FOV changes, but still have zoomed reticles.

We got rid of FOVfix due to this, as we have a lot of optics (modded too) that use zoomed reticles. Hoping to add it back if this is ever an option!

    • Open user -> mods -> Fontaine-FOV-Fix -> db -> scopetemplates.json.

      Affected scopes:

      Tango6t, item id 6567e7681265c8a131069b0f

SB PM II 5-25, item id 62850c28da09541f43158cca

SB PMII 3-12, item id 61714eec290d254f5e6b2ffc

SB PMII 1-8, item id 617151c1d92c473c770214ab

find each item id, change "CanToggle" to true. On scope zoom toggle, the reticle changes. It does not change with smooth zoom, this only works on toggle zoom. you can still use smooth zoom though.

If the reticle looks messed up, e on the tango6t, toggle the zoom, and then smooth zoom back out. Sometimes the displayed reticle is not the correct one for the selected zoom. It's a workaround until we get .15's smooth zooming.

    • Holy shit, wow!

    • Dezzy, you are the man, dawg.

  • Hi, I wanted to let you know that at least on my end, there's some sort of issue with this mod's interaction regarding the Tango6T scope; I'm unable to switch to the 6x magnification, and this issue fixed itself after I disabled the mod. After reenabling, I tested the other scopes I had in my stash (Vudu, Razor, Specter, Schmidt & Bender) and had no such problems with them.

Do you think this is a 'reinstallation necessary' kind of thing, or maybe something went wrong in the code? All of my settings for the mod are default.

  • Hey i seem to have an issue where i can zoom in while not aiming, even though i have "Allow toggle scope magnification while not aiming*" ticked off.

    Ive tried:

turning the option* off and on again

Pressing the reset button behind the option*

    Updating the FOV fix

    Reinstalling the FOV fix.

    That 's about it.

Ive been using this mod for a while and never had the issue. Do you guys know anything i can still try to fix it? at the moment it is ruining my experience in the game :(

    Thanks for the mod!

    • I don't know what you're talking about, sounds like you've confused several different things

      ? 1
  • I have noticed that for some reason whenever I am using EOTech HHS-1 hybrid I can't change the sight to the bigger zoomed one, I didn't see any problems with anything else but this one scope bothers me, it doesn't work with just FOVFix, doesn't work when I tried to add the Geff mod that is recommended, idk how to fix it, any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

  • One thing I am noticing while ADSing with any sort of scope or holosight while using shoulder switch, is that the scope/holo you are aiming with gets shoved way up into your face. Its of course less with a holosight such as an EoTech, but with something like an LPVO your entire eye/face is clipping inside of the scope.

very poor explanation on my part but here is an image of what it looks like with lefthand shoulder switching through a scope. It was not like this before in earlier versions, so I am not sure if it is something I need to modify in config to fix or if it is a bug. I have done a little bit of config changes to TRY to fix it, but if I do my scope is super far away with no shoulder switch. The mod works perfectly that I can tell otherwise. Any help?image.png?ex=66a31eea&is=66a1cd6a&hm=5829b91956b603f928971a4a7dfd055642095c0357cfedcbd975d7f1eca9a706&

    • are you using realism mod?

    • No I am not, but I have a slight idea of what it might be in regard to that. In one of the mods I installed it seems a random Realism folder was added with a JSON in correlation to the mod installed, so I might try removing that and seeing if that fixes it somehow, I will let you know.

      Thanks for the help!

Edit: That still did not fix it, not sure what will, might just have to reinstall the mod? Who knows, no error in console or nothing..

    • Did you see the patch notes of the latest version?

    • Did not know there was a new update just for lefthand shoulder swap until you mentioned it right now haha, installed it and that fixed it properly. Thanks a lot for the help again and for the new config!

      Thumbs Up 1
  • Variable keybind + mouse scroll is still changing movement speed for me on V2.1.1... anybody else?

  • The movement speed is huge. You're a fucking legend.

    Heart 1
  • The ADS cam position for pistols seems to be off (like centered hip/point fire). I do have a few mods, but the issue dissapears when FOVFix plugin is removed. Tried default cfg, have no sight blocking possibilities (e.g. faceshield, just to be sure because of realism mod), so i guess it should actually be an reproducible error and should be a easy fix.

    (FOVFix 2.1.0, SPT 3.9.3)

And thanks for all the AMAZING work btw! <3

    • You have Realism installed too and disabled stances, check the install/config instructions

    • Oh, okay - found it. Thought i already checked everything - my bad... killme

  • Is it this mod that disables the reticle changes when changing magnification modes? For example, the Vudu used to change reticles when zoomed in on its maximum power. Now when you change reticle power, the reticle stays the same.

    • I believe you are right, but check out SamSwats Eotech Vudu Overhaul, it's been reuploaded a million times so make sure you find the version for your SPT version, it's pretty slick. Makes the vudu actually have scaled reticles through it's various zoom levels. With the smooth zoom in this mod it very nearly simulates what it should look like in a real LVPO.

    • Its a great mod! But unfortunately only overhauls... one optic. I didnt feel like that would fit in very well if I was only down to using one optic because it is the one that functions correctly or better than the others. I do wish I could turn off the affect this mod has on magnification reticle changes.

  • hello, I'm running into an issue. I use ESDF keybinds and while leaning right with R, I can not use variable zoom with middle mouse. I swapped to WASD with E as right lean and it works normally. I'm wondering if there is a way to get variable zoom working while holding R. I'm on 3.9.3 using the 3.9.2 version of mod. also I noticed this issue back in 3.8 with fov version 2.0 but ended up just playing with version 1.10 or 1.11 (can't exactly remember) any help would be much appreciated.

    • Just an idea, what if you map your leans to your mouse? I tried that a while back and it was a game changer for me. With those out of the way you'd be free to map this wherever you want it, or I bet the hotkey+scroll would work better too.

I have my leans set to my forward and back buttons on my mouse.

    • thank you for the advice, i have interact on forward and crouch on back, what i found most helpful was switching my lean to press instead of continuous. its not as fluid but its the closest thing to what im use to. also hotkey+scroll does work as well, i just didnt want to press an extra key to zoom. what i thought was weird is that it worked normally in 1.10/1.11, i was hoping fontaine mightve had some insight on how to remove the restriction since in 1.12 he had hotkey changes in the notes. i understand its a unique issue and not everyone plays esdf.

    • This is an issue I have run into as well, and it has solely to do with the R key. I play on RDFG and I am entirely unable to zoom in or out whilst holding the R key, whilst being perfectly able to do so on previous builds. It's really quite weird.

    • yeah in 1.12 there was hotkey changes that removed Left Ctrl, Left Alt, R and C , and im hoping fontaine might read this and give the small community that doesnt play wasd a way to remove the restriction.

    • were these changes made by BSG themselves, or by Fontaine?

  • just a comment to change the 666 devil shit

    • wtf are you talking about

      Happy 1
    • 666 is supposted to be the devil's number .I became the 667 comment :kekw: hummm

    • doing the lord's work

      Happy 1
  • Hey Fontaine, I was wondering, do you happen to know what the default FOV values are for the Player Camera ADS FOV for each multi-level?

I was looking to customise a little and just hoped to use the default FOVs as the baseline but I can see when you install the mod, the default FOVs get overwrote to 1.0.

Thanks brother, loving all the mods you make!

    • let me know if you find the answer! There was an old comment, or Reddit post, or something I read back in 3.8.3 where Fontaine dropped the settings to get pretty much back to default but I can’t find it anywhere. I’ll check my old 3.8.3 configs tonight and let you know if I still had it set on there :)

    • I just set my global ADS FOV to 0.85 and it feels good.
